THE CIRCUS:
The multidisciplinary community arts and performance space Big Sky Works brings its interactive circus show and workshop, STARSHIP HOOPERS, to DUMBO for a one night only performance. Members of the Heavenly Bodies the Big Sky Works’ Hoop Troop create a planetarium and build a solar system with the audience using hula hoops and spinning carpets, together with visuals by B.A. Miale. Big Sky Works was founded by Tanya Gagne, whose work has been produced at the Sydney Opera House, the Roundhouse in London, P.S. 122 in New York, The Mayan Festival in LA, and festivals throughout Argentina, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Europe.
THE ARTIST
Cara Lee Sparry came to New York City to study industrial design at the Pratt Institute in 1988, and she moved to DUMBO in 1992. An installation artist who also works in graphic design, she has previously designed exhibits for the United Nations and the Barney's Christmas windows, as well as numerous other clients. Cara Lee is the co-founder, owner and designer of Superfine, which opened in 2001, and she designed The Lighthouse beneath the Archway, which opened in 2013.
THE GALLERY:
The Space Station, by This Friday or Next Friday, premieres at this year’s Live at the Archway. Tfnf is likely the tiniest, most inconsequential art gallery in DUMBO, Brooklyn, probably in NYC, and maybe on the face of the earth. It was founded by Nathan Sinai Rayman, and he runs it with Zach Seeger, his Director of Programs.
